President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney attacked each other over the economy and women’s rights. They both try to win over critical states to get the edge during the upcoming November election.
Romney told supporters in Iowa that their state was like a second home for him. He accused President Obama of mismanaging the economy and changing rules regarding welfare recipients. He added that a second term for Obama would result to high levels of unemployment.
President Obama started a two-day campaign in Colorado with a pitch to women voters. Analysts said that the upcoming presidential election will be a close one and the winner will depend on politically divided states such as Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, and Florida.
The president told the mostly female audience in Denver that Romney and his fellow Republicans wanted to limit access to birth control and would allow insurance companies to deny women coverage because of pre-existing conditions such as cervical cancer or breast cancer.

President Obama was introduced at the event by Sandra Fluke, who is the Georgetown University law school graduate whom talk-show host Rush Limbaugh called a slut for her support of the president’s contraception coverage policy. With the support of Fluke, Obama’s campaign is hoping that the president will get majority of the women’s votes. At present, Obama’s advantage over Romney among women voters is said to be in double digits. President Obama praised Fluke as a tough and poised young lady who was brace to stand up for herself.
Several polls showed that the president has a slight edge in the race for the presidency. A Reuters poll showed Obama leading over Romney among registered voters at 49 percent to 42 percent. This was up from the 6 point advantage President Obama had a month ago.
