President Barack Obama goes back home to Chicago on Wednesday to raise more funds for his campaign and get more support for his reelection. He expected to raise more than $2 million from his longtime supporters.
The president needs more money as he starts off the 2012 campaign year. The trip to Chicago comes as his approval ratings improved after having a tough year. Unemployment rate remains high but the good news is that the economy is recovering.
The president is joined by his chief of staff William Daley, two days after he announced his resignation that would take effect at the end of the month. Daley became chief of staff in January 2011 when Rahm Emanuel left the position to run as mayor of Chicago. Daley would go back to Chicago in February and serve as adviser to the campaign.
Obama was surprised by Daley’s resignation, which he told the president during a private meeting after the Christmas break. The president had to find a replacement right away and he selected current Office of Management and Budget Director Jacob Lew.
It is business as usual for Obama and his team. They are putting together proposals aimed at improving the economy and job creation. It would be unveiled during the president’s State of the Union address at the end of the month.
